[He hasn't been coming over, but she's gone and seen that the temple was fixed up. She'll leave a note along with some food on the counter of the bar.]
[She'll return to pick up the container to find that it hadn't been touched. He's never left food before... She picks up the note, the words stinging a little.
Alex had come to drop off another one and also to try and wait to see if she could catch him, but when a couple of hours pass, she decides to go, taking the old dish with her.]
[ He doesn't reply to the note, but this time when she returns, there's a washed and dried container waiting for her. Whatever happened to the food is a mystery. But even if she comes looking for him, Mikoto is passed out in his room from overusing his white flames. ]
[This was her third attempt at making tamagoyaki. Of course she paired it with other foods, but the first two attempts at them were failures. They were either over cooked or way too sweet. She's hoping she got it right this time.]
Sorry for making it so many times. Is it better this time?
[ He's almost come to expect the notes by now, so when another one showed up with another container of food, Mikoto has stopped frowning at the sight and just resigned himself to the stubborn woman. He was never good at saying no to her type. Like Honami-sensei she had a stubborn streak even in the face of a man less than deserving of her concern. ]
[Alex was already bracing herself for whatever critique Mikoto had left behind, so it came as a surprise to see some kind of compliment instead. She does a small fist pump in victory over the first nice thing he’s actually said about her cooking—Which she’s realizing looks ridiculous.
It was a relief to see he was at least eating the food she left, but she still worried about his condition.]
I’ll keep working on it then!
[She debates writing the next sentence, but goes for it anyway.]
[ He catches sight of the invitation the next time around and picks it up with little interest. The next day, Alex will find a bento box clearly in a take-out box from a local restaurant at the entrance to her temple. The invitation sits on top of the box, along with her last note. ]
[Alex almost doesn’t see the box when she walks out. She sees the invitation first, confused since she had already received hers. When she crouches down to pick up the container, wondering who on earth would have left it, she sees the note, immediately standing up and looking around to see if he was still around—]
Which he wasn’t. She felt a twinge of disappointment.]
He could have come inside...
[But still, the fact that he even came at all gave her some relief. Alex walks back inside to put the food on the dining table, taking that time to look at the note, which was brief as usual.]
Not interested in going or in telling me if he feels better?
[She huffs at the lack of an answer. Then again, if he actually told her how he was feeling, that would be too many surprises from him in one day already.]
[ It really wasn’t something Alex would have expected him to do, which was probably why the gesture was quite impactful... And also why she was very curious about what he had brought her, opening it up like a kid unwrapping a gift on Christmas.
He’ll find the invitation back on his counter with a note saying:
In case you change your mind.
Which was unlikely, but hey, that’s still on the table.
And also a seperate note with another meal. Pasta this time.]
Thanks for the food. It was really good! I shared it with Tem.
[ The next day there's another box waiting for her at the entrance to the temple, this time it's large. On top of the box is her note with a response on the side. ]
Don't count on it.
[ He writes and beneath it lies the invitation. Sorry, but he doesn't do formals. If she opens the box she'll find this inside. He didn't know what she liked so he chose one of each type they had. ]
[Alex was more than surprised to find yet another box outside. Once was shocking, but twice? She had to admit she was rather confused by this. Was he..trying to pay her back for the food? She chuckles to herself at the thought.
Again, she shares it with Tem. It'll last a couple of days, but she does plan on trying each one. The only thing she picks out are the onions.]
Do you meaning going to the party or eating together?
[She can’t say she was expecting a yes, even about eating together. Still, she left the food on his counter with a dessert this time. She hadn’t tried baking since she made those pastries for Nina. Hopefully he liked red velvet cupcakes.]
Give up already. Why bother with this, Alex? You know how this is gonna end.
[She flinches, but ignores the sinister voice in her head, and leaves another note.]
I still hope you will.
[He can refuse the invitation, but he can’t return it at least.]
[ The next day while he's sleeping, Alex will find the note she left in the same spot. There's no response this time but in place of the red velvet cake there's a small box with two pastries.]
[She had thought the food exchange was done, but the moment she opens the box and sees the contents she starts to laugh. It was the image of Mikoto in a bakery picking out something so delicate and adorable that had her sturggling to stifle her laughter.. It was considerate of him to buy two though. He probably knew by now that she liked to share whatever she got with her shinki.
Ahh, it was so cute it seemed almost a waste to eat it, but it also looked delicious, so Alex helped herself to a plate and fork to start on her share right then and there. It was kind of fun, doing things the other way around.]
[She took this time to really look around the bar, since her last visit wasn’t really the time foe that, and the food delieveries were just for her to drop things off. Remembering that temples had familiar places integrated into them, she wondered what this bar was like for Mikoto back where he was from. Were the people from before all here? Were there more? For someone so closed off, his place was a perfect spot for gatherings.
Alex takes a thoughtful bite from her fork, glancing back at the dessert. Mikoto wasn’t one to bother looking around to find a specific gift for somebkdy, and this definitely wasn’t his style. That seemed more like...something Izumo would do. He was a creature of convenience. So she couldn’t help but wonder if this was something he had gotten for someone before.]
[ The pastry was one Anna liked. Of course, Izumo was the one who first made it for her, but she liked to go with Mikoto, hand-in-hand, down to the store to buy one from the local pastry shops. Mikoto turned heads when he entered such an establishment with a little girl hanging on to him, but he became a common fixture there with Anna having discovered a sweet tooth. ]
Fruit pastry.

[Note 5]
Are you doing alright?
[Note 5]
I can feed myself.
[ Just because Izumo isn't there anymore doesn't mean he's going to starve to death. He doesn't touch the food. ]
[Note 5 at the back]
Alex had come to drop off another one and also to try and wait to see if she could catch him, but when a couple of hours pass, she decides to go, taking the old dish with her.]
It's so you don't have to for now.

Will you be attending the party?
[ Back of Note 8 ]
[ He hasn't exactly been keeping track of anything lately, let alone celebrations. ]
[Note 9]
Are you feeling any better?
[Note 9]
Not interested.
