Personality Growth

When Mikoto first arrives, he quickly discovers most of his clansmen are already there as shinki which means most of them died after his death. After all the effort he took to save them, this news hits him hard and leads him to stay away from them so he doesn't drag them back into the mess of Kings. However, they gravitate towards him anyway and even his assigned shinki is one of his own clansmen, Izumo Kusanagi. As time goes on, his clansmen realize their connection to one another due to their matching tattoos and similar fire abilities and soon start asking questions. Since shinki can't learn about their past without harming themselves, he doesn't answer them. When he summons his Red Sword of Damocles, all of them feel its presence making it impossible to hide their connection, so he calls them together. He acknowledges their connection giving them chance to rekindle their bonds or ignore it. After the meeting, Mikoto realizes he's never going to have the same relationship with his men again and steps back to let them focus on the bonds they hold with their gods instead since it's clear they no longer need HOMRA the way they once did.

Mikoto is the titular holder of the Egyptian God of the Sun, Ra. Much like his reign as the Red King, he doesn't take up the duties of a God. He continues to walk his own path free of expectations. Having walked away from his clansmen to let them form their own bonds with their respective gods, he learns to be self-sufficient, leaning into his god powers to heal the destruction to his body caused by his red aura. He uses his cleansing fire to heal his injuries so he doesn't have to rely on his men to calm him down. He no longer thinks of himself as pure destruction since he's able to heal himself and others, but he's still chaos walking and tends to keep to himself, only this time he doesn't need any chains to keep him under control freeing his men of the task.

Mikoto is the titular Egyptian God of the Sun, Ra. His god power is a white flame known as a Cleansing Fire. Mikoto has the ability to use his fire to heal wounds and cleanse afflictions including his own. Healing will be an exhausting feat and he'll have to sleep off any major healing sessions. His fire will be able to cleanse afflictions of the body and soul such as poisons and blight which will tire him. He'll also be able to use his cleansing fire to severely wound an Ayakashi but not kill it.

What is the Sword of Damocles?
A physical manifestation of a King's power. If/when a King unleashes their powers by activating Sanctum, the Sword of Damocles in their respective color appears over their head. As of this write-up, there are two Kings in-game: Mikoto Suoh (the Red King) and Reisi Munakata (the Blue King). It's worth noting that the Sword is like a mile (~1.6 kilometers) long—large enough to be seen hovering above a cityscape over some distance.

All characters are capable of seeing it since they aren't routinely brainwashed by the Gold Clan as they are in the K series.

In addition, those attuned to feeling power or energy are likely to feel it radiating from the Sword. It doesn't feel like either good or evil because the Sword is canonically described as 'pure energy' that takes on material form. So it probably gives off an aura of power comparable to the way one may feel the heat from their (phone/tablet) battery charging.

What does the Sword of Damocles do?
Other than hovering over its respective King's head, the Sword in and of itself doesn't really do anything on its own. It's like a giant glowing energy receptacle that is a manifestation of a King's power and a reflection of their true condition. The Sword's appearance means that someone is drawing or wielding a dangerously high amount of energy. It may show signs of shielding itself when its respective King engages another similar or equal power, such as another King.

Can the Sword of Damocles be attacked, damaged, or downed?
Yes, but I don't recommend doing any of the above, especially the last one.

If the Sword is downed or falls, it will cause destruction like that of a nuclear bomb. For example, in the canonical Kagutsu Crater incident, the Red King's Sword of Damocles fell, completely changing Japan's topographical landscape. (The damage appears smaller in another attempt to overlay maps of Japan with other screencaps, but it's still quite extensive.)

Because the Sword of Damocles reflects a King's true condition, it takes damage if/when a King becomes unstable, usually from drawing, overusing, or abusing their power.

Therefore, the ultimate accumulation of this damage inevitably results in the Sword's fall, otherwise known as a Damocles Down.

Unless a King moves to protect it, the Sword can take damage from concentrated high-powered attacks, and the more damaged the Sword, the more likely its fall.

Is there any way to stop the catastrophic destruction caused by a Damocles Down?
Yes, all else will be spared if the King whose Sword is damaged and/or falling is killed before the Sword makes impact.

Can damage to the Sword be reversed or restored?
It's highly unlikely. The Sword of Damocles is an allusion to the imminent and ever-present peril faced by those in positions of power. (See Wikipedia.) It's only a matter of time before the Sword comes crashing down on a King.

As a King, his physical strength and speed are enhanced significantly. He holds the power of the Red King that manifests itself as a red aura. The red aura is a physical manifestation of the magma-like flame inside him. The red aura can be used both offensively and defensively. Offensively, he can choose to use it as a burning flame in the form of a great fireball or simply pressure, which means his aura doesn’t always burn. He can choose to release the pressure he keeps inside without the flames creating a staggering force that slams his opponents to the ground the same way he did to the Blues when they they surrounded him at the Ferris Wheel. His power release was so strong they were flung out of trees and unable to stand. Mikoto uses his aura to form flame like blades around his hands and feet which he uses to slash or cut his opponents. Defensively, Mikoto is able to use his aura to make an impenetrable shield. The shield can stop speeding bullets, disintegrating them on contact and by expanding it to his environment he can break illusions. A unique trait to him as a King as seen in K-Side: Red, Mikoto can construct individual shields for people around him. He did this for Totsuka and Anna to protect them from the enemy and himself when he unleashed his full power while fighting the Gold Clan. The shield protected them from his fireball attacks and from anyone else who dare attack them.

Mikoto is a brawler. He never uses weapons and instead fights with his fists. He concentrates his aura on his arms and legs creating a barrier allowing him to go head to head with any weapon or blade. By concentrating his aura at his feet he can jump extremely high. He can’t fly but he can use his aura to propel him through the air accurately. When Mikoto gets serious and unleashes his true power, the damaged Red Sword of Damocles appears. The Sword of Damocles is “made of pure energy which manifests into a gigantic sword that hovers above the King's head whenever they use their full powers”. At this point, the magma-like flame he keeps buried deep inside finally see’s the light of day and Mikoto can burn through anything. His power increases exponentially and if he’s not careful he runs the risk of losing control. If that happens, the sword will discipline him by crashing into him from above, if this happens the power he holds back will be released all at once and destroy everything around him, creating a large crater similar to a meteor hit.

In addition, Mikoto has the power to grant his clansmen flame-like abilities. The extent of their powers varies from person to person but most gain destructive flame-like abilities that emerge as bursts of power, while some can manipulate the flames more delicately though not as destructive they are more precise. The power he lends to his Clansmen derive from him and so they are merely a taste of his power. Furthermore, he is unlikely to make any new Clansmen.

Note: All of Mikoto's supernatural abilities come from the Red Aura that marks him as the Red King

Why?:

Mikoto is known as the Red King. He is canonly someone who holds a God-like position as King and who has retainers known as clansmen similar to a God-shinki relationship. Furthermore, Mikoto isn't someone who follows. He might not be a conventional leader, but he is still a King, a leader, in his canon. Due to his slacker attitude and inability to follow any path but his own, a shinki position would not suit him.

God Type:

Much like his reign as the Red King, Mikoto will not take up the mantle of what people think a god should do. He'll carve his own path free of others expectations of him. He'll mostly take on requests/prayers that give him an outlet so he'll tend to choose prayers that allow him to fight. Mikoto will not care about his predecessor. He'll be aware of it but he won't stick to what they did or believed in. He'll do things his own way regardless of what was done before.

Power:

Cleansing Fire. Mikoto will have the ability to use his fire to heal wounds and cleanse afflictions. Healing will be an exhausting feat and if he heals someone from a life-threatening condition he will collapse from exhaustion and be out for a few days. His fire will be able to cleanse afflictions of the body and soul such as poisons and blight which will again exhaust him. He'll be able to use his cleansing fire to take down Ayakashi's in a fight.

Notable Relationships

Izumo - His shinki. The two are still steady friends but after Izumo took on a second name from another god Mikoto decided to revoke his name so he could properly be with the other god but the topic caused Izumo to get into a fight with him making him rethink his initial course of action and in the end, he decided not to remove his name, though it's doubtful he'll use him as a shinki anytime soon.

Totsuka - A goddess. The two are still steady friends and Totsuka is still always there for him when he feels he's losing himself. However, they're growing apart and Mikoto has decided to step away from him to give him room to live without the problems that constantly plague him as the unstable Red King.

Yata - A shinki. The two are sort of... friends? Yata stayed with him for some time with Fushimi when the two lost their gods simultaneously. Yata is the reason Mikoto called for the meeting since he hounded him the most. He also assigned him to watch over Eric since Eric was always quick to pull away from the group.

Eric - A shinki. The two are on talking terms. Mikoto's lost control of his powers the first time they met which made Eric scared of him from the beginning. For this reason, Mikoto chose Yata to look after him since Eric wanted nothing to do with him. They've had a few important talks surrounding Eric's obvious traits of an abusive past. Mikoto hopes he'll start opening up to Yata and the other clansmen.

Bandou - A shinki. The two are kind of... buddies. Mikoto mainly leaves Bandou alone since he seems the most composed out of all his clansmen, except for Izumo. He still does some stupid things but Mikoto doesn't really disapprove of it since it's typical behavior in HOMRA.

Reisi - A shinki. The two are sort of... fighting partners? The Blue King arrived a few months after his arrival. Considering that Mikoto made Reisi kill him he knows he's part of the reason Reisi died. He felt bad enough not to corner him into a fight as he often did when they were alive. However, recently Reisi started up their fights again and Mikoto isn't such a good guy to turn down a fight. He enjoys their fights far too much but it seems Reisi's god doesn't. The last Mikoto knows, Reisi has decided to stay away from him but Mikoto has no intention of following anyone's orders. He'll do as he pleases.

Alex - A goddess. The two are steady friends. Mikoto started sleeping in her temple gardens and that's how they started to get to know each other. She knows all his bad habits and tries to be strict with him which never works, but she accepts him as he is so the two get along fairly well. Recently, Mikoto has realized that Alex also suffers from trauma which stems from abuse, probably from her past. Mikoto doesn't pry so he'll just have to wait until she's ready to tell him about it. For the moment, he's determined to keep her safe much like he did with Anna.

TEMPLE:
The temple of Ra takes the form of a bar called HOMRA. The imported English-pub comes fully stocked with wines, beers, and spirits. There's everyday brews and for those with more expensive tastes, there's a row of tasteful bottles behind the counter. The bar offers an ever-changing menu filled with tasty meals and treats for its patrons. In the corner, tucked away from prying eyes, lies a stairwell that leads down to a large basement. The basement contains a large sofa and an old film projector along with a TV for more modern tastes. It offers a large open space where people can hang out and be as loud as they want as the noise won't filter into the bar area. Nestled above the bar are two floors of living quarters. The first contains five bedrooms, each sparsely decorated with a bed, dresser, and closet. There's nothing unique about them aside from the porch that juts out, facing the ocean. The top floor is composed of a spacious flat with wooden floors. This is Ra's personal quarters but unlike the rest of his temple it's made to withstand the god of the sun, while the rest of the temple is made to restore itself within a week's time if it's damaged or destroyed. At dawn and sunset, the temple offers a mesmerizing show. The sun's rays hit the god at just the right angles and shoot off like wildfire creating a prism of light that lasts but a few minutes.

♚ MEDICAL INFO: Mikoto's a healthy human with supernatural abilities that mark him as a King. He's got supernatural senses in the form of strength, speed, and reflexes.
♚ MENTAL INFO: He's not overly smart in any department but he's got street smarts and it's hard to pull a fast one on him because although he might not show it he's observant.
♚ TRIGGERS: Threatening anyone under his protection.
♚ TELEPATHY/MIND READING: Go ahead but get ready for a mind blowing experience. By expanding his power he can disperse any illusion. If someone enters his mind they'll see an endless ocean of magma and nothing else before they're kicked out by his automatic defense in the form of a lion made from flames.
♚ PHYSICAL VIOLENCE: YES! Please do! Mikoto lives for a good fight and is happiest when he can go all out. He's a brawler so he fights with his hands, no weapons. Mikoto tends to retaliate most often than not and doesn't initiate a fight unless it's someone of equal stature that way he can have some fun. As for hurting him, go ahead and try! He's a King, but more than that he's got command of the most destructive aura of all seven Kings. I doubt anyone could get past it if he was truly defending himself. Still!Please go ahead and try ! He loves fighting. It's the only thing that truly makes him feel alive. Killing him would be something we'd need to talk about.
♚ PHYSICAL AFFECTION: Mikoto's not an emotional or affectionate guy, so don't expect anything from him. The most affectionate gesture he's really shown is a pat on the head. Mikoto's the type to get close to only a handful of people so it's these people who he'll accept affectionate gestures from even if he doesn't return them. Flirting with him? Go ahead. Most likely, he won't respond and if you try to comment on his looks he'll just ignore it. As a King, Mikoto is used to people praising him and giving him compliments from nowhere. He hates them so don't expect much from him if you go in this direction. Hugging him? Sure! How he reacts will depend on how close he is with the person. Kissing him? Umm. He's more likely to accept a friendly kiss to the cheek or hand from someone who means it in an innocent manner though he'll feel super uncomfortable because he's used to people being afraid of him and doesn't really know how to handle the opposite of that. As for a romantic kiss, he'll probably stop it if the other person has any feelings for him because then it means something, but if it's just natural attraction on both sides he's in, no strings attached.
