Definitions
Gods: "immortal" beings born from human wishes and made to serve those wishes.
Shinki: divine weapons of the gods; all shinki were once humans that died, heir souls are given purpose when a god names them.
Ayakashi: negative energy, thoughts, and spirits that group together to bring disaster down on the residents of the Near Shore (human world).
Blight: a disease that plagues someone of the Far Shore (spirit world) when they come in direct contact with an ayakashi. An impurity.
Personality Growth
When Mikoto first arrives, he quickly discovers most of his clansmen are already there as shinki which means most of them died after his death. After all the effort he took to save them, this news hits him hard and leads him to stay away from them so he doesn't drag them back into the mess of Kings. However, they gravitate towards him anyway and even his assigned shinki is one of his own clansmen, Izumo Kusanagi. As time goes on, his clansmen realize their connection to one another due to their matching tattoos and similar fire abilities and soon start asking questions. Since shinki can't learn about their past without harming themselves, he doesn't answer them. When he summons his Red Sword of Damocles, all of them feel its presence making it impossible to hide their connection, so he calls them together. He acknowledges their connection giving them chance to rekindle their bonds or ignore it. After the meeting, Mikoto realizes he's never going to have the same relationship with his men again and steps back to let them focus on the bonds they hold with their gods instead since it's clear they no longer need HOMRA the way they once did.
Mikoto is the titular holder of the Egyptian God of the Sun, Ra. Much like his reign as the Red King, he doesn't take up the duties of a God. He continues to walk his own path free of expectations. Having walked away from his clansmen to let them form their own bonds with their respective gods, he learns to be self-sufficient, leaning into his god powers to heal the destruction to his body caused by his red aura. He uses his cleansing fire to heal his injuries so he doesn't have to rely on his men to calm him down. He no longer thinks of himself as pure destruction since he's able to heal himself and others, but he's still chaos walking and tends to keep to himself, only this time he doesn't need any chains to keep him under control freeing his men of the task.

Disposition:
Protective
Mikoto wields the most chaotic aura of all seven kings. His power is often compared to destruction. The last Red King destroyed a large portion of the landmass of Japan when he caused a Damocles Down dying in the process and killing his clansmen along with the last Blue King. In contrast, Mikoto is shown to care a lot about his clansmen and is very protective of them. Mikoto goes to war with the Blue Clan (kingless at the time) defying the Gold King in the process for Anna, who eventually became part of the red clan. He later goes to war with the colorless King defying four other Kings in the process when one of his clansmen, Tatara, is killed. Furthermore, when Mikoto was first chosen by the slate and became the Red King he was surrounded by enemies who were ready to kill him on the spot. Yet his first action as a King wasn’t to destroy but to protect. He shared his power with his two best friends, Izumo and Tatara, granting them the power to defend themselves. Despite his destructive tendencies, Mikoto uses his power first and foremost to protect, not himself, but his clansmen; a clear contrast to the last Red King.
Relentless
When he’s set his mind to something, Mikoto is unrelenting even when he’s running towards death and destruction. When one of his clansmen is killed, Mikoto goes after his killer, the Colorless King. The other Kings try to dissuade him promising justice, but he wants vengeance, and nothing will stop him from exacting it with his own hand. Yet, it’s clear the power needed to kill another King will undoubtedly break his already damaged Sword of Damocles. If that happens, his Sword will fall causing another crater and taking many civilian lives as collateral damage. Still, Mikoto is relentless in his pursuit. He’s the personification of the idiom – ‘Don’t wake the sleeping lion’. After the destruction the last Red King caused, the other Kings left Mikoto alone in order not to stir the hornet's nest which is why the newly crowned Colorless King kills his clansmen to sow chaos and reap the rewards in the aftermath. Yet, he doesn’t count on the Red King’s unyielding determination to see him dead by his own hand. Mikoto is dauntless in his vengeance even if it means forfeiting his life, but not his clan. By maneuvering the Blue King into a corner, he marks him as his executioner, and after the deed is done, the Blue King has no choice but to kill him to stop an even greater tragedy. In the end, Mikoto gets his vengeance and submits himself to the Blue King’s sword thereby preventing another disaster and saving his clansmen.
Untamed
Mikoto has lived a life outside the norms of society. He doesn’t think as others do, nor does he draw his passions from a common spring. He’s someone who gets a rush out of a fight and got into a lot of them before he was crowned. He’s authentically himself. Stubborn to his core and wants to live a life of freedom. He’s uncompromising in his beliefs and will never bend the knee to anyone. He doesn’t live a life that anyone would praise, but so long as he can live without the chains of society weighing him down, he doesn’t care. He does what he wants. This attitude on life is reflected in the type of people who join the red clan, most of whom are misfits. Mikoto gives them a home. Somewhere to belong. A reason to be strong. To be prideful. They are his ‘pride’ in every sense of the word, but also his chains. His clansmen are his to protect. They’re the reason he leaves his den and hunts down anyone who does them harm. They’re the ones who hold him back and keep him in check, so he doesn’t draw too much power from the slate and damage his Sword of Damocles too much. Mikoto is personified as a lion and like one he prowls his concrete jungle with his men at his side. He’s a wild animal, untamed by society despite their best effort to bring him to heel not understanding that he will not budge for them, but will bend for his clansmen for they are the chains he chose to wear. Yet, in the end, even they can’t stop him from pursuing his own instincts to take vengeance for a fallen comrade.
Suitability:
Mikoto is the Red King. He's physically able to handle most threats to himself and even welcomes the challenge of facing off against a strong opponent. Mentally, he's not fragile either. The last time someone entered his mind in order to take him down he easily outmatched them with his flames. His power gives him a degree of mental protection. He also keeps himself in check most of the time. There's not much that angers him but hurt one of his clansmen and there will be hellfire. Despite his destructive responses, Mikoto is generally pretty mellow. There's not much that stirs his interest which is a problem because he gets bored easily and eventually, he seeks out other ways to curb his boredom like getting into fights, so he will most likely be the first to respond to a call to action not because he wants to help but because it might be interesting. Without his clansmen here to protect, Mikoto will not have many reasons to lash out since he doesn't care if someone tries to hurt him, but he's quick to anger and act when one of his men is hurt. This might translate over if he finds someone he feels a need to protect. Mikoto is vulnerable when his emotions are on the line. He acts on what he feels and expresses his emotions via his actions. Don't poke the lion!
